We recently returned from France, where my 9-year-old daughter had had a ski injury. I contacted our GP practice (Auchtermuchty) straight after the long Easter bank holiday weekend. A GP contacted me by phone less than an hour later. A possible abnormality has been spotted on the x-ray and the French medics had been concerned about something sinister.
The GP arranged a referral for an X-ray and orthopedics. NHS fife radiology texted me within 2 hours to book an X-ray appt a few days later, but then this was superseded by a call when we were asked to attend VHK that afternoon, where she had an appointment with Mr Murray.
He was very kind, she had the x-ray then followed by a further consultation, and then immediately met a specialist physiotherapist. She does need further imaging for reassurance, but I thought that the service was amazing; all within 36 hours of calling the GP.
Thanks very much to the GP practice and the paediatric ortho team for being so reassuring, kind and efficient.
Being in French medical care and having a bill made us all the more grateful for our wonderful NHS.
