About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I got referred here from my local hospital for the first time and have had to come back two extra times over the last month and was very happy with the treatment I received. I was referred to the burns unit and was told by my local hospital to get there early as I didn't have an appointment. I arrived with my mother at about 8.30am and it took us a while to find the unit at first as the hospital is over three different parts of Stoke I believe and not being from the area, it was very frustrating going from one hospital to the other. We eventually found it after asking a nurse (whom was just on her way to work and very helpful she was too), she pointed us straight in the right direction. Once I had booked in with reception, I didn't have to wait all that long to be seen actually I think I was the first one through. The doctors and nurses were so lovely and caring, I really felt that my condition was their upmost priority. They were wonderful, they asked about my medical history and made sure I was getting through my follow up apointments for my condition and advised me everthing I needed to do to care for my burn. I actually came out of the unit with a smile on my face because of the outstanding care and concern they had for me, I was certainly in a state when I got there, but felt releif when I left. Both other times I have had to return for follow up appointments, although I didn't see the same doctors, I still got the same level of care as well from the nurses. I was shown how to redress my burn in case at any time I didn't feel like returning to my practice nurse (as I was having to go every other day for a month and a half) and can say now that after two months I am well on the road to recovery and that is down to the doctors and nurses for their outstanding care. Thank you to you all.

What could be improved

Just the hospital toilets as the bins where overflowing and they were not up to the best of standards, could do with regular checks and cleans and the hospital itself could do with a little refurb.
