Last week I had my baby girl in the midwives unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. I had an extremely quick Labour and made it to the hospital just in time (my daughter was nearly born in the visitor toilet at the hospital entrance). My midwife Iain was absolutely incredible, he took charge of getting the pool filled, sorting my gas & air all while guiding me calmly through my contractions. Having followed a hypnobirthing course, I wanted a calm environment and Iain went above and beyond to ensure I got that. I am only sorry I never got to see him the following day to once again express my gratitude.
I’d also like to highlight that the HCSW, Helen, also went above and beyond to provide support with establishing feeding, showing myself and my partner how to swaddle and helping me to get some sleep when my daughter wouldn’t settle which meant the world to me. She was friendly, welcoming and I felt like she really made the effort to ensure I was being looked after. Myself and my partner are so incredibly grateful for the service that was provided while I was in the midwife unit both for Labour/birth and post-natal care and couldn’t fault it. Following my first birth in Covid which wasn’t pleasant, it was such a positive experience that I enjoyed every minute. I couldn’t fault one aspect of my time at AMH, and felt emotional saying bye to the staff because of everything they had done for me and my daughter.I truly am so grateful to Iain & Helen and think they deserve the utmost credit and thanks for everything. There are not enough words to express my gratitude towards them- the hospital is extremely lucky to have them working there.
