"Can’t get an appointment "

About: Gun Lane Medical Centre

Trying to see a doctor is so difficult and stressful. I have been trying for 5weeks now. I do not feel my concern is ‘urgent’ or an emergency; I just would like to discuss health changes with a doctor in order to establish if it is urgent. After trying for 5weeks without success, each time I call I’m left on hold 20mins to then be told all appointments for the day have been taken. If it’s urgent call 111 or try again the following morning. Even if I call at exactly 8:30am I can be on hold for 20+mins and told all appointments have been taken.

I don’t feel the discussion I need is deemed urgent but I’m not a medical professional so how do I know?! That is the point of why I would like to discuss my health changes with a professional! By the time it actually happens, let’s hope it has not developed into an urgent problem!

Still no luck today.

Surely this can be better resolved by being able to book non-urgent consultations a day or two in advance? At least there is a chance of being treated then?!

Hello Sam

I am really sorry to hear about the difficulties that you are experiencing in regards to trying to make an appointment to speak to a GP. We are currently dealing with an unprecedented demand for our services, for which I can only apologise for. Are you aware that you can complete an eConsult request on-line through our website which gives you the ability to ask to speak to a GP? This service is available from 8:00am each morning.

As you have not left me your full name, I am unable to contact you and offer my help, but if you would like my help, please contact me at the surgery.

Once again, I am sorry that you have been unable to get an appointment.
