I attended the Endoscopy Unit at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee for a Gastroscope and was very nervous about it, the thought of a camera being put done my throat was alarming as I can't even go to dentist without gagging. My first gastroscope was at 8am and I was back home for 9.15am (I live approx 5 mins from hospital). I was seen almost immediately and prepared for the procedure. I noticed how busy the dept was and yet the staff were all in excellent spirits, full of smiles and a couple of staff singing along to the radio, very relaxed atmosphere. Arlene the nurse seeing to me was very friendly and knowledgable and talked me through the procedure. Sara, the endoscopist who did my gastroscope was also very friendly and professional and I opted for the sedation and can honestly say it was over within minutes,, I may have fallen asleep but I felt no pain and Sara explained what she did throughout the procedure and I also had a printout to take home with me. I have been back to the dept for a second gastroscope and as previously the staff were excellent with Sara again doing my procedure in a very friendly and professional manner. I have to go back for a 3rd gastroscope and I have no concerns at all as I know it will be easy, quick and painless as previous visits have proved. I can only thank the dept for making what I thought was going to be uncomfortable and painful the exact oposite and applaud them for the excellent service they are providing.
