"Endoscopy Unit - Appointments"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Endoscopy Unit

(as the patient),

I had been referred initially for an appointment for a Colonoscopy which I was extremely nervous about.  On entering Endoscopy Unit at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee I was seen within minutes and prepared for my procedure.  The nurse was excellent and explained all that would happen, immediately putting me at ease.  I chose to have the sedation and can honestly say I didn't feel anything except a little bit of stomach cramp where they have to manouver the camera inside stomach and I even watched it all on the screen.  I didn't feel at all embarrassed and the staff were excellent.  I think the procedure was approximately 20 mins but I felt it was over within minutes.  When finished the endoscopist explains his findings then I was given a printout of all that had been found and he referred me to have a Gastroscope.  The receptionist called me the very next day to arrange the Gastroscope and I was seen 2 weeks later.  Very efficient, caring staff making an uncomfortable procedure as quick and pain free as possible.
