"Health visitor availability"

About: Nursing / Health Visiting

(as a service user),

I've recently had my second child and I've noticed a massive drop in the availability of the health visitor services in the city. It's very difficult to get someone to call you back and the number of visits has greatly reduced. No visit at all expected between 6 weeks and over a year.

With my first child, we had a supportive health visitor, and also benefitted from a group meeting at 4 months to discuss weaning preparation and a development review at 8 months. I've had difficulty getting advice for an issue with my 3 year old recently too. While I don't currently need any support, I think this decline in services is sad to see, particularly for first time parents in the city.

Dear PatientNov21,

thank you for taking the time to feedback your recent health visiting experience on Care Opinion.

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your second child, and I apologise that it has been difficult for you to reach your health visitor. I would expect a call back within 24-72 hours however if this is not the case please email gram.citycomrefline@nhs.scot or call 01224 559140 who will ensure a message is sent directly.

Due to staffing constraints, city health visiting service are currently offering a reduced number of visits to families, additional visits will be undertaken when parents have expressed a need for further support or advice. Within our teams there are also nursery nurses who can provide tailored advice and support for areas like weaning.

I will feed back to the team regarding the importance of a call back to parents to ensure support is as timely as possible.

Regards, Lisa, Deputy Chief Nurse,
