Having had a minor stroke in February, I was invited to have the operation to clear my carotid artery.
I attended Ward 12 at Ninewells and looked after by a pleasant and helpful nursing staff prior to my operation. Staff Nurse Ashleigh is the one name I remember for her efficiency and compassion.
The day of the operation was traumatic - a leak developed during recovery which led a large haematoma and the excellent Mr Suttie pulling me back into theatre for an additional operation to fix the leak. Very sensibly I was kept in recovery for a long time the second time to make sure - as the lead nurse said I was perfect when I left, which was 6 pm, after a 9 am start.
The aftercare was superb during what was left of the day and during the night from large numbers of nursing staff whose names are a bit of a blur I'm afraid.
The following day, the staff were determined I'd get home, including Mr Suttie, who turned up to see how I was despite being on holiday. (I suspect it was also a bit of displacement activity to avoid fixing his broken garage door! But very welcome all the same.)
Cheerful Staff Nurse Beth got me cleaned up, got my dressings on and ready to leave that afternoon.
All in all, a good if somewhat painful (and bruising) experience. Thanks to all concerned.
But a pity about the food......
"Thanks to all concerned"
