"Excellent care for my dad!"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Cardiology/Coronary Care Unit (Ward 18)

(as a relative),

My dad was admitted to UHM last week and after spending a short time in Medical Receiving he was transferred to Ward 18. As he was transferred during visiting, myself and brother were allowed to be with him as he went to the ward. The staff who greeted him in the department instantly put him at ease and warmly welcomed him.

My dad mentioned that all of the staff were amazing with him, including the doctors, nurses and the student nurses - especially Chloe (possibly bank staff) and Kara the student nurse, who my dad spoke very fondly of.

A special mention to staff nurse Craig who cared for my dad. He is an outstanding nurse! He is such a kind, caring and empathetic individual who strived to ensure my dad was comfortable at all times. My dad was very anxious and he communicated everything clearly to my him, allowing him the opportunity to voice his views on his care. He was very knowledgeable however, ensured to communicate everything to my dad without any medical jargon so he fully understood what was happening. Craig’s care was nothing short of outstanding and it is evident he cares very deeply for his patients. When I visited the ward and noticed Craig was working, I instantly had a smile on my face as I knew my dad would be having a good day. Thank you so much Craig, you are an asset to the NHS!

My dad also had input from Angela, who was the specialist cardiac care nurse, and again was nothing short of amazing! Angela could see my dad was anxious and worried and reassured him (and us) tenfold. She communicated everything very clearly to us and told my dad the next steps and what to expect in his future care. My dad felt reassured that Angela would be the friendly face he would see during his follow up, which provided him that continuity of care he needs at the moment. Thank you so much Angela, you do an amazing job and we can’t thank you enough!

As a nurse myself, I know Craig, Angela and ALL the staff in ward 18 went above and beyond for my dad and left no stone unturned when it came to assessing and treating him. Their care was person-centred and they communicated everything clearly to him. Thank you for looking after him so so well!

Dear Lw12,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us about recent experience at ward 18 at University Hospital Monklands. I am sorry to hear of your dad being unwell. This must have been a worrying time for you and your brother.

I am delighted you and your dad experienced and witnessed the extraordinary care our friendly teams aim to deliver every day, and that your dad has had an excellent care from Kara and Chloe. Your feedback will give the team a much needed boost and I will be sure to feed this back to the whole team.

I hope your dad is recovering well.

Kind regards,

Jenni
