"Spinal block"

About: Cannock Chase Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had a spinal block on one of my lower discs, to relieve pain in my right hip and leg. This was carried out at Cannock Chase hospital by my orthopaedic consultant Mr Goru.  Every morning appointment seems to start at 7am, so when you arrive at the ward there is a fair crowd of people waiting. The wait though isn’t too long, as people are ushered in when their name is called. The member of staff who was doing this was very cheerful and greeted everyone with a smile. I was lucky there wasn’t a long wait for me in the reception ward before I was wheeled down to the operating theatre. Most people walk if they can, so a dressing gown and slippers are a good idea.

The procedure was virtually painless and every member of staff was helpful and reassuring. Mr Goru had explained everything to me before being taken up to the theatre, but he still went through it again as it went along.

Can’t praise Cannock Chase and all the staff I encountered enough.

I can recommend this institution to anyone who requires orthopaedic intervention.
