"Appalled by what I heard"

About: Kingsmount Medical Centre

(as the patient),

I attended this GP surgery for an appointment with the nurse.  While waiting in the reception area I was absolutely appalled by what I could hear in the waiting room, and how patient confidentiality was breached in many ways.

While sitting waiting, a member of staff was calling patients in.  They didn't close the door of the room and I could see straight in but also hear the conversations they were having  about medical conditions.  What happened to privacy?

Also a GP was doing a telephone consultation with a patient on the phone and had their door open with the patient on loud speaker. I heard the whole call, & really felt for the patient as they would never know that not just me but others in reception could hear everything.

I found it outrageous.  I told the receptionist but they said there was nothing they could do.  Really?  Maybe use a headphone and close the door, and other staff close the door too.

Surely this is a breach of data protection. The patient answered a number of security questions at the start of that call and gave personal details.  I would have been fuming if that was me on the end of the phone

Surely as you just don't offer GP face to face appointments anymore, and only do telephone, confidentiality is still key?

I feel this really needs looking into.
