Unacceptable and left feeling let down. My son has been showing some signs of adhd/autism for a while now however his behaviour has become more challenging. This has also been highlighted by the school. The school have been a great support and referred him to the community teams.
We have had numerous visits to the GP who again has been a good support and put urgent referrals in to neurodevelopment team and Camhs. Camhs have since replied to say they would not accept or offer any help with my son as adhd was suspected they don’t cover this. Numerous phone calls to the neurodevelopment team to be told it was a 3.5 year waiting time. The health visitor and social work are now involved and feel like we’re not getting anywhere with getting my son the support he needs urgently.
These referrals have been in for over a month with no communication received from anyone. He has a younger sister in the house who is becoming increasingly more anxious and worrying about what her brother will do next. My mental health has hit rock bottom and don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have been to a support group for parents of PDA profile on the ASD. This has opened my eyes and am terrified of what the future holds. I know the NHS is on its knees but 3.5 years for a child that urgently needs help is unacceptable. I feel isolated and unsupported by a system that is suppose to be there for you in a time of need.
