Today, after suffering with worry about this procedure I had my Endoscopy. I cannot praise enough the staff at Southmead Hospital Ward H. They put me at ease straightaway and ran through the procedure. I was asked if I wanted the Throat Spray or Sedation.As I was extremely nervous, I chose Sedation. The Nurse then took my blood pressure. She then inserted a cannula into my arm. Within a minute I was called to go to procedure room. The Nurses were lovely and the Dr too. Asked if any questions- I asked how long will it take ?I was told 3 minutes.My throat was sprayed and sedation administered. I was told to lie down and which point I saw the black "dummy like ring" that goes into mouth !.This disturbed me but I was quicky reassured by Dr and Nurses. I was told to turn on my side and think of sandy beaches and calm sea !! The sedative must have taked over-I knew nothing about the gastroscope going down ! In no time I was being helped up from bed and into recovery. Job done ! After a brief rest, I was told I would be able to go home with my Partner. Please, take my word for it -no worries folks !!!
