"A heartfelt thank you"

About: Borders Community Services / District Nursing Borders General Hospital / GP Out of Hours (BECS)

(as a relative),

We have recently had the privilege of being able to care for our Dad at home during end of life care.  This was due to the fantastic support  we received from the Palliative Care Team, Suzanne our Palliative Care Nurse Specialist, Melrose District Nurses and the Out of hours Services (BECS) .  They all enabled us as daughters to be able to care and support our Dad's wish to remain at home.

The compassion and empathy shown towards us all made this difficult time that little bit easier. They were all extremely respectful of our Dad, his home and us and brought comfort and reassurance that we weren't alone.  While we recognise it was a team effort we would particularly like to thank Suzanne for co-ordinating his care and taking the time to support us as a family.  Also to Becs a service that doesn't always get the recognition for the fantastic work they do in supporting people at home.  Everyone was crucial in enabling our Dad to stay at home and without this we wouldn't of been able to honour his wishes of dying at home with dignity and respect for which we are forever grateful.  Thank you NHS!

On behalf of all the professionals involved in your Dad's care, I would like to thank you for sharing your experience. It is welcoming to hear that your Dad received the care in the place he wished to be, and that you all felt supported through out. I will ensure your feedback is shared to the teams and people that you have highlighted. Thoughts to you and your family through this time.

Dear Nanie1704

Thank you for posting such lovely feedback, especially at a time that will be difficult for you and your sisters.

I’m pleased that your Dad remained at home where he was looked after with kindness, empathy and compassion. We always strive to facilitate the wishes of those we care for, recognising the importance of this for patients and their families. We’re pleased that we were able to support you and your loved ones during this difficult time and our thoughts are with you all. The BECS team will be pleased to receive your kind words – thank you.
