I was visiting an elderly relative and observed some very poor and mildly concerning practice on ward 27 from the nurse staff. This included long response times to patients call buttons (one gentleman was awaiting a toilet change for a long time), abrupt and impolite response from staff when asked seemingly simple requests, patients wandering the corridor seemingly distressed with little interaction from staff and disorganized food service.
Unfortunately my relative was not given long to finish their mealtime before a staff member came to clean up. When explaining they had not finished the staff member rolled their eyes at my relative and I had to speak up on their behalf.
I do worry about this as I’m not able to visit as frequently as I’d like.
I would also add that in general the staff I observed had poor bed side manner with the other patients and were not particularly dignified - I am concerned about this going forward.
