What I liked
Referral from GP with inflamed and badly swollen knee, query repeat DVT/gout/infected knee joint.
The atmosphere of calm, concerned and good humoured professionalism at the Medical Assessment Unit was instantly reassuring. We were kept informed of what was happening with tests, X rays and consultations. Any inevitable delays were explained, such as the necessary wait for the orthopaedic consultant to complete an operation.
Everyone on the team, medical and support staff was really thoughtful and it was nice to be offered tea and sandwiches, (particularly helpful for patients admitted on their own). Although we did not manage to catch everybody’s name, we would like to thank the doctor and the Nurse and their colleagues for treating us with courtesy and kindness throughout the day.
Eventually diagnosed as suffering from bursitis and rapidly responded well to the prescribed treatment.
Local people are fortunate to have the benefit of the Emergency Assessment Unit which is an excellent facility: the NHS at its outstanding best.
What could be improved
New white wheelchairs are vastly superior to old unwieldy black ones. Could latter all be replaced?
Would have been very helpful to be able to summon porter assistance to help OAP wife to wheel suddenly immobile patient to Medical Assessment Unit
