"Not happy at how I was treated"

About: New Victoria Hospital / X-rays and scans

(as a service user),

Attended a GP referral today for an X-Ray at a drop in clinic at the imaging department in the New Victoria Hospital.

Attended the department at 10 am. Was told it was a 30-40 minute wait - which was fine.

Had been waiting for 1.5 hrs, so went up to the receptionist to ask if they knew roughly how much longer I would be waiting as people were coming and going and I was still waiting.

Receptionist stated that I had only been in the department for an hour as they clocked me in at 10:25 am, even though I had checked in at 10 am. The receptionist stated that this is how they do things, and as I was only checked in for an hour on their system I would have to take a seat and there were 4 people ahead of me.

Time went on and I was still sitting at 12 pm (2 hours after I arrived/ checked in) so again politely asked the receptionist if it would be much longer, as my daughter was waiting in the car for me for the 2 hours. Receptionist phoned through and was talking to the radiographer on the phone in-front of me discussing the situation, stating I had only been in the department for 1.25 hrs. When I corrected them saying that I was here for 2 hours, they replied back with attitude and said to take a seat and I would be taken next.

I got my scan after 2 hrs and 25 mins of waiting.

When the radiographer came to collect me from the waiting area, they said with attitude that they understood that I had been waiting and will need to just wait in this other area until this other patient was took.

I am thankful that we have the NHS and that I got my scan. I don’t mind waiting my turn as I did. I’m just not happy at how I was treated during my visit to the hospital.

There was no patient-centred care or compassion shown to myself, I was just another number waiting to be seen. The staff that spoke to me, especially the receptionist, was not pleasant to communicate with and communicated with attitude.

Dear empathybd57,

Firstly I would like to apologise for the way you have been spoken/dealt with during your visit to the X-ray department, this is not how patients should experience their visit.

Unfortunately some days can be extremely busy within the department but this does mean anyone should be spoken to in an unfriendly manner.

I will speak with the senior radiographer and pass on your comments so she can remind her staff about the way all patients should be spoken to.

As for the staff working at the reception desk, I will take this forward with them.

If you feel you would like to discuss this further then please do not hesitate to contact me direct on 0141 347 8389, my name is Carol and I am the office Manager for the X-ray Department at the New Victoria ACH.

Again I would like to apologise on behalf of all involved.

Regards

Carol

Office Manager
