My father had the misfortune to require hospitalisation and was admitted to Ward 2 in University Hospital Monklands.
The nursing care he received was sadly lacking, as was the communication with my family and I, and indeed within the ward team. There was what I believe to be inaccurate and false information documented within my father's notes, which was extremely disappointing and frustrating. I requested to speak with the Senior Charge Nurse of the ward to discuss my concerns, however I was informed that they were unavailable. I am still waiting to speak with them.
On visiting my father, I noticed that this was the third day in a row that he had not shaved - most unusual for my father. I spoke with a Staff Nurse who advised me that they were too busy to assist with this, however if family wanted to do this, they were welcome to do so. With prompting from myself, my father had a shave.
I asked this same Staff Nurse when my father last had a shower, and their response was that they don't do showers. I thought I had misheard, but no, they further stated they don't do showers in this hospital. I had no words. The nurse was in no way apologetic or embarrassed by this blatant admission of what to me is a disregard for basic nursing care.
Disappointed, dismayed and appalled are only some of the words to describe my experience.
Extremely dissatisfied are another two.
"Lack of basic care"
