"Waiting for an assessment"

About: Mental Health / Community Mental Health

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia when he was at school.  He was prescribed meds to help him cope with his lack of concentration and his inability to recall information.  He was encouraged to try to cope without the meds in adulthood.

Unfortunately he is unable to cope with what is expected of him in the daily life of employment and he's always let go in the numerous jobs he's tried.  He has been offered the help of supported employment, but it's been suggested being back on meds again would benefit his chance of success.

After being referred to East Ayrshire community mental health team, we have been told he won't be seen for 7 or 8 months to be assessed to restart meds that previously helped him cope.

I find this unacceptable that he has to wait 7 to 8 months for an assessment and potentially a prescription for medication to help him move forward and cope with employment.

No diagnosis is needed here, this is why this wait is unacceptable and unfair.

Good Afternoon

I'm sorry to read of your frustration with the current unavoidable timescales for assessment with a Consultant Psychiatrist In East Ayrshire. I would be able to provide you with a rationale for this current wait if you were able to contact me directly on 01563578592.

Kind regards

Ashley Kennedy
