(as the patient),

I telephoned my medical centre (in Helensburgh) at 8am this morning to see if I could get an appointment but was constant getting message "The surgery is now closed to contact the NHS24 service so I walked to the medical centre in Helensburgh to see if it was opened to find that it was shut and it was a bank holiday when it is not hear but the answering service doesn't even say that it was closed and it was a holiday but the hospitals clinics etc are still open today not even did the medical centre put an answer message but nothing in the press to say they would be shut. I have now had to take a trip to the minor service just to have my toe checked. urgent clarity is needed when the practice is shut as many people might not be aware of when the surgerys are closed

Thank you for taking time to feed-back. I am sorry there has been some confusion around arrangements during Bank Holidays. I will speak with colleagues in Arygyll and Bute and check what arrangements we have in place for advertising any changes to services. Our normal practice would be to have something in the local papers, clear message on Surgery website, clear message on surgery answer phone and signs up in the surgery.

I do apologise if we have not been clear in any aspect of our communications and are grateful to you for bringing the matter to my attention.

Thank you for your reply to my message.

I would maybe suggest also if I could, that they ask all local pharmacies to advertise when they are closed also.

I am sure if they would, displaying the holidays in the local Community magazine in advance which goes round to all households within Helensburgh and Lomond and also in the local hospital within the Helensburgh area which also covers Garelochead.
