"Amazing midwifery care"

About: Maternity care / Ward 46 (post-natal) Maternity care / Ward 48 (labour ward) Western Health & Social Care Trust / Community Midwifery Services

(as a service user),

We had a baby boy in December and I wanted to reach out to say how amazing the midwifery care I received was.

The midwives in Shantallow HC are all so wonderful, caring and knowledgeable. We had Joanne for most of the appointments, she built up a great relationship with me and my husband and we are so grateful that she was with us throughout antenatal care, Joanne was so thorough and so really prepared us for labour, induction and what to expect in hospital care.

The midwives in the labour ward are out of this world, there will never be enough words to describe how safe they made us feel when we were most vulnerable, and how great the care I received was and how the overall experience was made so positive by every midwife we met (and the Drs Cat and Esther). We could not have asked for a better team to look after me and bring our baby into the world. Midwife Niamh was with us when our baby arrived and it was lovely that it was her, as she had been a community midwife for us in earlier weeks of pregnancy.

Post natal ward staff were also so attentive, caring and thorough providing such a high standard of care.

Overall I just wanted to get in touch because I have so much good to say about western trust midwives and people can be quick to complain if there is a problem but don’t always acknowledge when things are done well and although it was 9 weeks ago life has just been hectic for us and I am only getting a chance to sit down and write this now but our wee family are so grateful for our experience and will be forever grateful to every midwife who we met along the way and who brought out baby boy safely into the world.

They truly are heroes!

Dece, thank you so much for taking the time to post both you and your husbands experiences at Shantallow Health centre during your pregnancy. I have shared your story with Joanne and the wider Midwifery Team. Your comments mean so much and we all send our best wishes to you and your son.

Hi Dece,

Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to leave such positive feedback for maternity services. I hope you are enjoying every minute with your new son!

I will share the comments with Niamh, Cat and Ester, who I must agree are three exceptionally caring individuals. I am so pleased you and your partner had such a positive birth experience, something we strive for day on and day out within our department.

Kind regards,

Shonagh Clifford

Labour ward manager
