"Belfield for Malnutrition"

About: Bellfield Centre / Older peoples' services

(as a friend),

89yr old Mother-in-law released from Belfield this year. GP ran routine bloods once home and results raised immediate alarm with urgent re-hospitalisation.

Basic nutrition levels had been seriously impoverished after almost a month of 'care'.

Family had raised concerns with senior staff during visits throughout, after noting weight loss and poor appetite. Requested dietary fortification and was refused as despite family requests for intervention, her weight loss did not 'fit the chart' and no other medical checks/bloods etc were checked.

Utterly shocked that urgent hospitalisation is needed as a consequence of a stay in Belfield.

Good Afternoon disinfectantym48

Thank you for taking the time and sharing your mother-in-law's experience whilst in the care of the Bellfield Centre.

It is always difficult to read when families and patients feel we have let them down and I must apologise that on this occasion you feel our services have not met the standards of care we expect our patients, particularly, your mother-in-law to receive.

To enable us to support your mother-in-law and your family, and to gather further information, I would be grateful if you could contact Martin Shiels, Assistant Manager, Bellfield Centre on 01786 444892 / 07818520911, or alternatively by e-mail, shielsm@stirling.gov.uk.

I hope this is helpful and thank you for sharing your family's experience.

Kind regards

Caroline
