"Car parking"

About: Ninewells Hospital

(as a service user),

I am an NHST employee who had cause to attend an appointment at Ninewells Hospital this morning. Can the current parking arrangements please be reviewed. Having left home at 7:40am this morning to attend a 9:00am appt I felt I had left plenty of time.  However, on arriving at Ninewells at approx 8:20 am there were no parking spaces available and I spent time circling around various car parks before finally giving up and rescheduling my appointment as I was not going to make it on time.

Late cancellation of my appointment is the last thing I wanted to do but trying to park at the site at this time is really stressful. I appreciate there are no current parking charges which in my view is encouraging more people to travel to work via private vehicle but this is not great from a patient experience perspective and surely must be costing the organisation financially with either short notice cancellations or patients not attending appointments. I am able-bodied and could potentially walk some distance to allow me to access the hospital but this may not be the case for less abled service users. Just to note that I live rurally and required a private vehicle for onward travel to my place of employment.

Many thanks for raising you concerns, we take all complaints/feedback very seriously, car parking on the Ninewells site can be very challenging at our peak times with spaces being very limited, I do meet with SABA management every two weeks and look to see what we can do to improve the car users experience when coming onto the Ninewells Site.

I appreciate that you are advising that you meet with SABA on a regular basis but this feels a bit like a standard response that would be sent out to appease an individual who has provided valid feedback. In response are you in the position to share any possible improvement outcomes that have come out of your discussions which may enable service users to access parking more easily and hopefully stop Ninewells car park becoming in effect a free park & ride or staff car park?
