"The treatment was first class and so quick"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I had a sudden onset of tachycardia, to the point I couldn't measure it myself. I had central chest pressure and was worried something serious was happening. I was taken to A&E and triaged very quickly and with a HR of around 190, I was transferred onto a trolley and taken straight to Resus where they diagnosed SVT. I'd had quite a lot of recent emotional stress, which they think contributed to my condition. Having tried blowing into a syringe a couple of times to slow my heart down, I was then given a drug to correct it. It was the most awful feeling once it started to work, but it had explained to me very clearly that this feeling would be short lived. It was and my heart reverted to a normal rhythm.

I can't praise the Staff highly enough from Admission, to Triage, to Resus. The treatment was first class and so quick. I'd especially like to highlight the care I received from the 2 Nurses, Louise and Katie in Resus. You kept a very worried patient, informed and calm. Thank you also to everyone else involved, I can't remember all the names, but your care was very much appreciated.

Dear Buddie12

What lovely heartfelt words thank you. I am delighted to share this with our whole team in A&E and will definitely ensure Louise and Katie get sight of it.

It must have been such a frightening time for you. The medicine used is so effective but does come at the price of an "awful feeling". It's reassuring to hear that the whole process was explained so well to you.

Thank you once again for sharing your experience on Care Opinion.

Gerry
