"Operation over the phone?"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Vascular Surgery (Ward 8)

(as the patient),

Was in hospital in February for an angiogram procedure where they tried to fit a stent in both of my wrists. They tried and failed for over an hour. I was in pain, it felt like the needle was going in the bone and when asked if I wanted them to stop I said yes.

They said they would have to try the groin area next time, and I was told that would be in May. I asked if they could not try to do that there and then and I was told no.

I left the hospital expecting to be called back for the procedure sometime in May this year.

I have now got a letter informing me that instead, I have a telephone consultation in May.

I am baffled - how can they fit a stent over the telephone?

Dear phoenixyp43

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I am sorry to read that your original angiogram procedure was both painful and unsuccessful. I also apologise that it appears you have been given conflicting information.

Could I ask that you contact Patient Affairs at University Hospital Hairmyres on 01355 585325 to allow them to look into this for you.

Kind Regards

Carol
