"Orthopaedic cancellations"

About: Vale of Leven General Hospital / Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I have had six zoom calls cancelled and I keep getting letters and texts saying it costs the RAH £135 per missed appt, today I snapped and I'm going to tell them what it costs me.

I was on 600 calories a day.  I lost four stone, to get my weight down for a knee replacement, I got a phone call because zoom address was wrong.  I sat at my p.c. for half an hour on my birthday to find out they cancelled without telling me, fabulous.  I was told the staff member was sick. My next appt, oh they are on annual leave o.k. so you knew they was going you didn't tell me.  The next three appts were cancelled with no notice or an hour before after playing phone tag with a hospital number that doesn't take return calls - great idea that one!

I got a call on Friday afternoon after phoning twice and waiting for hell to freeze on hold I was told it's going ahead. It's now Monday and at 9:35 it's cancelled again. After the fifth cancellation I discovered the staff member had been for some months, I plunged into a depression.  I put two stone back on, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't relax I can't walk well or stand for long periods, I get grumpy from the pain, sometimes I drink too much red wine because I see no way out of the pain, but let's not forget it costs £135.00 per missed appt well whoop de doo.  What has it cost me the patient - do you think about that ever? I appreciate it's not cancer I have or an incurable disease but my pain is real.

The person treating me managed a zoom call in December and said I would get to see a specialist but it will be another 2 years until my operation.  They haven't contacted my doctor in two years I found out just now and they discharged me without telling me or sending the letter to the specialist. What am I supposed to do now?

Dear Hermosa

I am very sorry that your appointment has been cancelled several times and for the impact this is having on your quality of life. I appreciate how upsetting and distressing this situation has been for you. Can you please contact our Orthopaedic Waiting List Manager who can provide you with an update regarding your appointment? You can contact Anne Marie on 0141 314 6991.

I was also very sorry to hear that you are in considerable pain, you may want to consider speaking to your GP to see if they can offer advice on how to manage your pain.

Kind Regards

Nicole
