I have come across Nurse Grainne a few times while attending the Emergency Surgical Unit (EmSU)/while admitted to the surgical ward of Antrim Area Hospital. She has a lovely gentle, caring way about her. One night after one of my surgeries, I had a terrible time with vomiting etc. She was pulled between emptying my vomit trays & administering anti-sickness injections to me while also trying to deal with another patient in my bay who was retching/crying in distress all night. She did a wonderful job that night and despite being clearly under a lot of pressure, remained her warm, professional & extremely patient self. Very grateful to her and think she’s an excellent nurse!!!
Another nurse who deserves a special mention is Deputy Sister Kate. I have come across her a few times in the Emergency Surgical Unit (EmSU). She again is a nurse with a lovely way about her. So kind, patient and friendly. In Nov 22, I called EmSU in distress about an unexpected delay with a much-awaited MRI. I was worried that due to my ongoing pain, I had another abdominal abscess forming and damage was being done during the wait for the scan. I’m sorry that I took out my frustration and distress about my medical situation out on her that day. She was extremely kind and professional with me despite my anger, tears and extremely distressed manner. She has been equally wonderful in the three times I have met her since that call too. Another excellent nurse that Antrim Area Hospital need to treasure!!!
"Excellent nursing staff"
