I have been a complicated medical case since my appendix perforated in April 2022 and I needed two operations during my 8-day stay in Antrim Area Hospital. Following a second abscess/collection in August 2022, it was discovered that one of the appendicoliths/faecal stones (calcified poo) that caused my appendicitis in the first place was still remaining (known as dropped/retained) after the first two surgeries and it was the cause of my second abscess. A third surgery was deemed too risky so the consultants decided to hold off in the hope no more abscesses would occur.
However, after being admitted for a third suspected abdominal abscess in January 2023, Dr McAree decided that the ‘doing nothing’ plan wasn’t working and he successfully performed my third surgery the next day. He did an excellent job as the third different surgeon to operate on me, finally managing to retrieve both the dropped appendicolith that had been giving me ongoing pelvic pain since August 2022 and also my appendix tip which he discovered had been left behind too. I’m so grateful to him for giving me my life back and ending the daily pelvic pain that I’ve had for the past 6 months!!! THANK YOU!!!
