I was admitted to the surgical assessment unit after being seen by my GP for an episode of abdominal pain and bleeding.
I waited 2 hours to be admitted to the ward and there were a lot of patients waiting.
I waited another 7 hours to be seen by a Doctor. This is not a criticism; the staff in this ward are under huge pressure, the Doctors were in surgery and there were seriously ill patients constantly being admitted.
Once seen by Dr, tests were arranged and carried out later that morning. The medical staff were very thorough and made sure that I was totally fit to be discharged before sending me home with the appropriate follow up tests arranged.
The nursing staff were all fantastic under very difficult, busy situations.
A special mention for Maggie, the registered nurse. She was so kind to all the patients and their relatives and was a great mentor to the student nurses. She seemed to know exactly what was happening with each patient. Nothing was too much trouble for her - she is a huge asset to that ward.
As a nurse myself, I could see all of the things she was juggling, but she remained calm and so professional at all times.
I am extremely pleased with the care and attention given to me and think that the whole team on this ward should be very proud of themselves.
