"Medical Assessment Unit Royal Gwent"

About: Royal Gwent Hospital / General Medicine

(as a relative),

Referred by GP for fluid around heart and atrial fibrillation.

We arrived at 10am and were Covid tested and returned to MAU by 10.30. It was horrific, my husband was expected to eat, drink and sleep in the waiting room. He was there for 33 hrs before he was given a trolley in the ward area.

We were advised he was and still is at serious risk of stroke yet he remained in waiting area. He was taken into cubicle for treatment and then returned to waiting area which was exceedingly busy.

It was only when I spoke to nursing staff and said I would be making a complaint that they found a trolley. He had no access to bathing and showering facility.

Nursing staff were good but communication was poor.
