Hello,
This week I visited my GP practice to get my bloods taken that I get every three months, and my b12 which I get every two months and blood pressure for determining where to go with an illness I am suffering from just now. Unfortunately on arrival to the appointment the nurse apologised as they were unable to undertake all three actions. I was told they would only be able to do the b12.
The bloods are important as I am currently off my MS medication due to shingles and need the bloods to decide to go back on my meds or not. The blood pressure is important so I can take the next steps to diagnosing a problem I’ve had since October, that has taken this long for the doctors to put me forward.
The nurse was really lovely. They seemed overwhelmed that morning and even though I always ask for a longer appointment due to my bloods being difficult, they did not have this in front of them. I was only allocated 10 min for all three.
The practice gave me an appointment for the following week for the other two things, but this morning I just received three appointments by text (two of which were not my appointment). When I called reception I was told that they are doing one thing first thing and then I have to wait in reception until they can fit me in for the other thing.
This is causing me a lot of stress and I really don’t need it as I have MS and am in a lot of pain due to nerve damage from Shingles. I’m also not on my medication just now for MS which could potentially cause a relapse.
I now have to find someone to drive me to the appointment and wait for potentially an hour. It would have been helpful to have known this appointment complication the other day, so that it wasn’t short notice for me.
I really hope this doesn’t put the nurse off as they were super lovely and dealt with me crying very well. They were also great at giving me my b12.
I tried to change practices this morning but nowhere is accepting new patients.
