I received a colonoscopy at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert. I have had this procedure a few times before. Even though I am familiar with the procedure, I was naturally (I think?) anxious about it. Because the preparation you need to go through the previous day is quite demanding, there is always that trepidation that, if the preparation has not been effective, the procedure might not go ahead and you will have to go through the process all over again! By the very nature of the procedure, I think you will always feel self-conscious and vulnerable.
For these reasons, I was delighted and relieved that the service I received from all the staff was excellent. Their caring and reassuring attitude helped immensely. I was admitted by Staff Nurse Sherri, who made me feel at ease and explained what would happen. In the colonoscopy room, I was seen by Mr Brennan, who carried out the procedure, assisted by Jackie. I was accompanied by nurse, Victoria. Mr Brennan took time to speak with me before the procedure, to talk about my condition, my history and to explain thoroughly what he was going to do step-by-step. Victoria and Jackie comforted me and reassured me throughout the procedure.
I was attended by Sherri in recovery area, where once again I was very well looked after. As I said earlier, I have undergone this procedure several times in the past 19 years since I was first diagnosed with Bowel cancer; so I feel fairly well qualified to make an assessment of the care provided on this occasion. And I would say I was extremely satisfied with the excellent care I received, throughout the entire experience. I would very much like to reassure other patients who are awaiting this procedure - particularly first-time patients - that they will be very well treated and cared for.
