"I’m in awe of how slick the teams at the hospital are"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Endoscopy and day care

(as a service user),

Following some issues I was having it was suggested I have possibly the least favourite of all tests and checks - a Colonoscopy!!

Great stuff, let’s get to the bottom of the problem, I thought ( sorry I just had to do it). After doing the next least favourite thing - bowel prep - I attended FVR on Valentine’s Day for my procedure full of the joys of spring (but not much else).

As always I’m in awe of how slick the teams at the hospital are and within 10 minutes of arriving at the unit I’m in bed in a back to front gown designed for someone a little slimmer than I am. After a short wait, I had arrived early, all the paperwork done and dusted, it was off for the big event. I chose no sedation as I like to be aware and see what’s going on, and at no other time in one’s life do you get a better idea of how you work than a colonoscopy, it’s like a virtual reality trip inside an Octopus tentacle !!!!

Let’s be honest it’s not nice it can’t be nice, it’s like flossing with a scaffolding pole, it’s not a great treat. But and here’s the thing - when it’s done by people with the skills and care ethic of the team who did mine it’s nothing to worry about. I won’t go into the details, suffice to say I’m OK, a small polyp removed for checking, and it’s all over. I’ve spent better half hours, but even with no sedation and not needing any pain relief it was a walk in the park.

I was given tea and a biscuit and off I trotted none the worse.

My team deserve more than a mention but that’s all I can do here,so to Julie my camera person ( get a job in the movies any day ) and Victoria, Breeda and Sherri thank you thank you thank you. You are all worth 10 times what you get paid, in my view. I’m getting on a bit now and your charm with and skill impressed the life out of a grumpy old guy. Best Valentine’s Day in a while and all of you were my Valentines yesterday.

Thank you so much for taking time to provide feedback following your visit to the endoscopy department for a colonoscopy.

Staff in the department do work hard to provide patients with a high standard of care and support patients prior to, during and after their procedure. It is reassuring to know that they have achieved this for you.

Your kind words are appreciated and will be shared with the team.

Regards

Susan Cowan
