I recently gave birth at the midwife-led unit in Arbroath. To say the staff were amazing would be an understatement - my usual midwife who I’d seen throughout my pregnancy was on annual leave but the ladies I saw that day couldn’t have been more lovely, including a student midwife in her first year of training who stayed well beyond her finish time as it was the first birth she’d seen in her training and wanted to see it through. My little boy was born just around shift change time and unfortunately I had a few complications- suddenly there were 4 midwives plus the student there helping and getting me and my baby organised for a transfer to Ninewells, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all their help. They kept calm throughout everything which was so reassuring for me and my husband.
Choosing to give birth in Arbroath was the best decision ever - the atmosphere was so calm and relaxed (even if I didn’t feel it) and it was such a nice environment in which to welcome our wee bit into the world. I wish we’d been able to stay afterwards but the transfer was the best thing for me at the time.
Thank you to everyone who helped me that day in Arbroath- you truly are fabulous.
