I recently attended the Day Surgery Unit at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline for a Green Light Laser Prostatectomy.
I am full of praise and appreciation for the way I was received and treated. Although naturally anxious when having any kind of surgery, the nursing staff were very cheerful and reassuring. While waiting I was given the opportunity to be interviewed by two medical students from St Andrews University. They asked me about the procedure I was going to have and it was a pleasure to note their obvious sensitivity and respect as they questioned me on the nature of my health problem and its implications. I would also like express to them my appreciation for the nursing staff the anaesthetist and surgeon for their respectful understanding of my position regarding certain aspects of my healthcare which I had made clear in a medical directive which is attached to my NHS notes.
The follow-up visit to Kirkcaldy Victoria Hospital - Urology clinic was equally satisfactory, with a kind and sensitive approach by all nursing staff for what amounts to quite an embarrassing process of having a Catheter removed. Yes the nurses are used to it but the patient isn't...so I did appreciate the way it was all done without too much fuss.
In conclusion I would like to say that although the NHS comes in for quite a lot of criticism from some quarters I do feel that we are privileged to have dedicated nurses, doctors, surgeons and anaesthetists who do their best under much pressure. Never do they deserve abuse or unkind words as they endeavour to care for patients.
Thank you once again.
"Full of praise and appreciation"
