My brother has been a patient on the 6 North ward at Ealing Hospital for the past 6 weeks or so.
My brother has received excellent care during his stay and all being well, he will be discharged this week - my brother has a number of conditions, one of which is dementia.
There are a number of staff that I would like to thank and will do so under separate cover - but there is a member of staff that is worthy of special mention.
Please pass on my personal thanks to Tracey, Sister (Dementia).
Tracey has taken the time to get to know my brother and working alongside my family, she has helped to ensure that other staff know that my brother suffers from dementia; passed on my daily messages sent in by email; laminated photos that I have emailed across; provided access to a cd player, noting my brother’s favourite songs and playing some of those via internet; provided some visual cues such as Ludo board; and more tactile objects such as model cars.
When I called the other day to check on my brother, Tracey was sitting with him going through some of the stories and photos that I had sent in. Brilliant.
On behalf of my brother, I have never encountered such a positive dementia aware experience in a hospital or care setting. Thank you, Tracey.
Tracey is an absolute credit to the NHS - she has gone out of her way to help my brother and my family during this difficult time and I can’t speak highly enough of her.
