My wife passed away in October 2022. After 62 years of marriage, I find it hard to take, and was an emotional wreck, breaking down every time I was reminded of her and any time I was doing something that we used to do together. Some 4 months have passed now and I am taking part in as many activities as I can. Recently, whilst at the doctors, the nurse reminded me that she remembered my wife as a lovely lady that she often dealt with. This triggered off a spell of sobbing, and she immediately consulted a doctor who rang me and chatted to me, resulting in advice to contact "Talking Therapies". Then I received a phone call around week ago and spoke to Rachael.
Basically, I know there is no solution to this wretched feeling, but she put me back on track, basically by convincing me that I was not alone, and my lifestyle was commendable and I would be OK. She also offered many services that I may call upon, and backed this up by corresponding to me.
I believe in time, I will get better and more stable, although my life is changed forever. Anyway, I console myself to a certain degree by realising that
1. She had vascular dementia, and could have lived on in misery for a lot longer than she did - so a blessing in a way- and
2. She was in her eighties and therefore not surprising that she passed away. After all, we all must go at sometime around that age. and
3. There have been other occasions where people have lost their loved ones in more tragic circumstances. e.g a son or a daughter. This must be much worse.
I am in my mid eighties now, so my time is short and I am determined to make the best of it.
