I was discharged from ward 104 yesterday and was very pleased with the high standard of care that I received while on the ward.
I was under the care of Dr McLemen and she listened carefully to how I was really to help formulate a plan to help me feel better again. The nursing staff and healthcare staff were all very caring and worked extremely hard to meet the needs of the patients on a busy ward.
It was also very helpful that my own consultant (Dr Moroni) came to have a discussion with myself prior to my discharge onto how to formulate a plan into dealing with my slow colon and also difficulties with my PEG tube.
My only concern that I have was the difficulty it was to get me admitted to hospital. I was very aware that due to the vomiting that I would not get better at home. The GP at out of hours was very good and kept phoning departments to arrange my admission but kept being refused and to try another department.
The GP contacted Ward 104, Ward 101, Surgical Receiving Unit and Emergency Department and initially no department was willing to take on my case. He was persistent and continued to call Ward 101 and Ward 104 and finally my case was accepted.
The doctor stated that this sort of "bureaucracy" can often happen between departments. He did also ask me which ward would normally take on my case in a similar situation (ward 101, 104). Thankfully from the GP being persistent, I was admitted to the correct ward but this does worry me if further admissions are needed.
Anyway the care that I received in hospital was of a high standard. I just have some concerns about how difficult it was to be admitted to hospital.
"High quality care but difficult to arrange admission"
