"MRI brain scans"

About: Leicester General Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

I am still waiting for a comparison against an initial MRI brain scan I had back in November 2020, as the original diagnosis was deemed to be uncertain during a neurology appointment in June 2022. As a result of this, I was referred by my GP for a second MRI brain scan, with a view to obtaining a comparison against the first scan for confirmation and clarity. A result of the first scan was a diagnosis of hemifacial spasm.

After experiencing various side effects from prescribed drugs I moved onto Botox injections. To date I have had 6 sessions of Botox injections, and the side effects from the latest has been horrible.

I first went to my GP in March of 2019 about a facial tic, with drag and pull sensation. I had had a nasty bacterial infection, and wondered if as a result of that, I had Bells Palsy. I was asked to return if it got any worse, which it proceeded to do, and I returned to the GP in the September of 2019, whereapon I was referred to Neurology. I then had a telephone neurology appointment at the end of May 2020 to discuss symptoms, and was referred for the first MRI brain scan.

I have now been informed by my GP that neurology will not do a comparison between these two scans because the second one was requested by the GP, which means they will now have to re-refer me to neurology all over again.  This has now been done, but it could take a year or more for an appointment. It seems that I am now between the devil and the deep blue sea, stuck in stasis and going absolutely nowhere.

I am very frustrated and depressed, and to make matters worse, the Botox is causing a marked visual hair loss, which is devastating. My hope is that a kind neurologist will read this report.
