"Entry provision for those who have mobility limitations"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency

(as a friend),

Told definitively that I was not allowed in. Only one adult. I use a walking aid. No disabled parking nearby available

Informed member of staff I was unable to walk the distance back to the car.

Was refused a seat. Told I could stand outside.

Why is there no provision for those who are unable to stand for long periods. Walk any distance.

Who made the decision not to provide disabled adjustment?

Eventually was "in this instance I will allow you to sit inside".

The entry policy does not make any provision for those who have mobility limitations

Being told to go and sit in car and come back later is not showing any consideration for people who cannot walk that distance, nor stand for any length of time.

Dear Elle2,

I am the Lead Nurse for the Emergency Department at the Royal Hospital for Children. I am very sorry to hear of this experience and that you were not offered an adjustment to meet your needs.

Please could you email me on lewis.doult@ggc.scot.nhs.uk to let me know the date and approximate time that you attended our department so that I can address this with the staff members involved.

I am really sorry this was your experience and please allow me to assure you that all staff will be reminded of the importance of meeting the needs of our patients and their families. Should you need to visit our department again please ask to speak to the Nurse in Charge who will ensure that we can assist you.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention and I hope that by doing so no one else will have to have the same experience.
