My son attended RHC A&E after a referral from Stobhill Out Of Hours GP service. The great care started there and continued until the moment he was thankfully discharged. We were sent from Stobhill straight to RHC A&E where after a short wait on a busy Saturday evening we were quickly triaged and sent to Majors.
I cannot say enough good things about the first doctor we encountered, Ishbel (or Isobel, sorry if I've picked it up wrong!) Her kind, calm manner and way of explaining things so thoroughly helped to keep 2 very worried and stressed parents calm. The gentle way she dealt with my son even when having to take bloods etc which was unpleasant for all, she was just so kind and gentle, and we feel she is a true credit to the department. She even popped in to see us after we left A&E, in the Clinical Decisions Unit, to update us on a delay with blood results just before she finished her shift at midnight. We appreciated her so much.
We also received excellent care whilst in the CDU, where the nurses showed us such great care and compassion. My son was attended to by several doctors from several specialties, and every single one of them was so kind, knowledgeable, and would explain some scary things in ways that us as parents could comprehend. ENT, the paediatricians and haematology all dealt with us incredibly and we are so grateful.
We were then admitted to ward 2C, where again we received the most amazing care. All the nurses, HCSWs, the many doctors, everyone was so incredibly kind, informative, and were so kind and gentle with my son. The ward was extremely busy, I could see how busy the nurses were with such a high volume of patients, but we never once saw that reflected in our care, it was impeccable. Doctors did many tests and kept us updated and informed of results at all stages, which we truly appreciated.
Having a scary experience like this is made that bit easier to deal with when you are treated with such kindness and compassion. I am so proud of our NHS, thank you a million times for looking after my baby so well.
"Incredible care for my 2 year old"
