"Excellent Speech and Language Therapy support"

My son has attended speech therapy with Leigh at Condorrat Health centre. Leigh has been amazing and I feel she has gone above and beyond. She has a great toy cupboard which makes the sessions fun and more like play for my son. My mum has also been attending the appointments as she helps with child care and Leigh has given us 2 print outs of work to do so my mum and I both have a copy. This allows both my mum and I to be able to help and practice with my boy at both our houses. 

Leigh also contacted my sons nursery to go over the work she has being doing so his nursery can also help and practice with him. After her call with the nursey Leigh sent an email summarising their call and included links and worksheets, she copied me into this email so I was aware of the call and info given to nursery. I’ve taken lots of tips from Leigh such as if there’s a word he can’t say she says things like ‘oh that was a difficult one, let’s try again’ it’s a much better way of saying to my son that he wasn’t saying the word correctly.

I did have to wait over a year before the team had availability to see my son. This was disappointing as I wanted to be able to help my son but didn’t know how to. I understand there’s a backlog since Covid and shortage in speech therapist and I hope the waiting list can catch up so other children don’t have the same wait time in the future.

Since being referred we have moved from North Lanarkshire to East Dunbartonshire and my son has now been moved to speech and language at our new council. Leigh and he manager Pamela were great in assisting with the change and continued to see my son whilst I was awaiting the change over being implemented. Leigh wrote a detailed report for the new speech therapist and also said she could call her if they wanted anymore info on my son and the work we’ve been doing.

Our last session with Leigh was last week and my first session with new therapist is this week which means I don’t have any break between therapist. Thank you Leigh for everything you’ve done!
