"I am trying to find out:"

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) / Endocrinology

(as the patient),

Following months and months of being kept in the dark with regards to my Bariatric surgery date, my Care Co-Ordinator and I decided to phone the department and seek an update on the progression of my case. However, the administrator shocked us by informing us that I had been taken off the waiting list and discharged from the Clinic a while ago apparently due to some concerns expressed by the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT). Despite enquiring about the exact reason, we were given no further information and were told to contact the Trust's Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS) instead.

I have been engaging with (and fully complying with the requirements of) the Bariatrics Clinic at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (St Mary's Hospital) for no less than three years entailing a multitude of mandatory tests, groups and appointments, and had very high hopes in terms of finally moving on (i.e. lose weight and improve my physical and mental health). It is just heart-breaking to know that they are denying me the opportunity to do so (and without contacting me and/or specifying a valid reason as well).

Meanwhile, my overall health remains very poor (my BMI is extremely high and I have many co-morbidities), and that my only realistic chance of getting better at this point is to have a gastric bypass (or mini bypass) surgery ASAP. Psychologically, I have been feeling devastated since I heard the news and find myself on the verge of a mental health crisis,

I am trying to find out:

a) The reason why this clinic is refusing to operate on me.

b) How to challenge (and hopefully overturn) their MDT's decision, so that I can undergo my bariatric surgery as per previously planned.

Many thanks.
