I know the NHS is under great pressure and I've seen how GPs seem to be particularly vilified by some sections of the media and public. I want to share my experience of my Medical Practice.
I'd been feeling dizzy for 6-7 days immediately after waking up. Enough to cause me to stumble getting to the bathroom but not too noticeable when working. The last two days got worse and included nausea.
Concerned that I wasn't getting better, I called the GPs in the morning. Busy, 'please call back later'. I called again at a couple of hours later and made it in as 7th in line. After 15 mins on hold I spoke with a charming receptionist. No hint of her being flustered by being so busy. She made arrangements for a call back but emphasised the docs were already over capacity and may not call back until after the weekend.
A lovely doctor called me back in the afternoon that day. She carefully listened to my symptoms, explained her thinking what it might be, gave me some advice and prescribed some meds. I picked up the medication from the Pharmacy in the early evening, same day.
I consider this to be spectacularly good service from everyone involved, especially when demand is so high and services are under so much pressure.
Well done and thank you. Your efforts do us proud. Let's all demonstrate appreciation for the NHS and its staff before we risk losing it.
