"Excellent care from our Health Visitor"

About: Borders General Practices Children and Young People's Services / Health Visiting

(as a service user),

I would like to thank our Health Visitor, Amanda, from St Ronan's medical practice in Innerleithen who has provided us with outstanding care since the birth of my 3rd child.  From her first visit Amanda has been so approachable and a great source of reassurance and support. I have felt as though she is genuinely interested in the well being, not only of the new baby, but of our family as a whole.  For example, when she became aware of some behavioural issues we were experiencing with one of our older children, she very efficiently supported us in approaching the school for further assessment.

I was also grateful to Amanda for her experience and clinical expertise when noticing the new baby had oral thrush. She liaised with the medical staff at the practice and together they ensured we had appropriate treatment very quickly.  I had put the baby's fussiness around feeding due to newborn 'colic' and probably would not have sought the appropriate diagnosis/treatment for some time if it had not been for her attention to detail.

On the same note I would also like to praise St Ronan's Medical Practice as a whole.  In a struggling NHS we are always able to get an appointment exceptionally quickly when needed and we have always been offered a face-to-face review if desired without any 'hoops' to jump through.  All the staff (reception; nursing; medical etc) are friendly and professional and we have always felt that our concerns have been considered and dealt with appropriately.  We are very lucky to have them.

Thank you Amanda and the whole team at St Ronan's.

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know how much you appreciate the care and support you have received from Health Visitor, Amanda and the team at St Ronan's Medical Practice.

Becoming a parent is a unique journey for everyone and each new joyful addition to a family invariably presents different issues to overcome. This is why the Health Visiting role is so important because it is universally available to all parents with a minimum of 11 contacts from the antenatal period to school entry, and more if needed.

The Universal Health Visiting Pathway in Scotland places emphasis and value on the the trusting relationship that develops between parents and their Health Visitor and this is truly exemplified by your personal experience with Amanda.

I am also very glad to hear that you have also had tremendous support from St Ronan's Medical Practice. Excellence in health care is totally dependent on team work and effective communication and collaboration. It is wonderful to know that the team at St Ronan's and NHS colleagues have achieved that ambition for you and your family despite the contextual challenges faced by health and social care.

Kind regards

Joan Rutherford
