Yesterday morning I fell down stairs, hurting my forearm. I thought it was OK, so it wasn't till 11 am that I went to A&E at Wishaw General.
The waiting room was very busy, so I knew I had a long wait. Thankfully, I came prepared with my book. 7 long hours later I had been seen and left the hospital. Although this seems like a long time, it was no-one in the hospital's fault . Staff were constantly on the go. 2 people on different occasions collapsed in the waiting room.
Every member of staff were welcoming, chatty, and put every patient at ease. They are working under difficult situations. Staff shortages, no beds, and on occasion disgruntled patients, although this wasn't the case yesterday.
By the time I left there were no seats left in the waiting area. I believe that every member of staff - from admin domestic and medical staff - deserve a better salary for what they do.
I am grateful for the experience I had yesterday, and I think we should all be demanding that NHS staff receive what they deserve.
