"Moving to East India ward in John Howard Centre"

About: John Howard Centre – Medium Secure / East India Ward

(as a service user),

I was admitted to East India ward which is specialist PD unit in the John Howard Centre in East London.

Basically at first I was taken aback by the amount of groups and therapy sessions there were. My experience thus was emotionally draining and tiring. The patients were kind but had issues that were difficult to understand. I feel I showed some struggles in my behaviour patterns but I constantly questioned myself too on that basis.

I am sorry to hear that you found the experience on the ward emotionally draining.

It is true that the therapy for East India ward involves a lot of groups. That is because the ward followed a therapuetic community model which involves a lot of group work. In a way, questioning ourselves is an important part of therapy, but I completely understand that can feel tiring and difficult at the time.

I really hope you have taken something useful away from your time on the ward too.
