"No compassion at all"

About: East Lothian Community Hospital / Hospital At Home Team

(as the patient),

I had a major operation and was in a lot of pain. The 2 doctors that came were bossy and asking questions which I did not feel that they required to know - for example, would I need to be resuscitated, which I told them that I have a letter on the mantlepiece giving instructions.

They even wanted to see the scar. No compassion at all, did not do anything, just left after saying that if I do not want to co operate with them, that's it.

My husband got similar treatment before he died. The physiotherapist wanted him doing exercises when he could not move at all. They do not do hands-on, just give out an A4 size paper with instruction.

Hi scorecardcj39

I am really sorry to hear of your poor experience with the Hospital at Home team, and that you felt the two members of staff who came to see you lacked compassion. One of the main goals of the service is to help patients feel as comfortable as possible and I’m sorry that this was not the case for you.

I will make sure to share this feedback with the team. If you would like us to investigate your concerns further or would like to meet with a member of the team to discuss your experience in more detail, then please contact the Patient Experience Team. You can do this by sending an email to feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us via Care Opinion.

Best wishes

Dr Jenny Harrison

Consultant Physician
