"Fabulous care experience"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Vascular Surgery (Ward 8)

(as a service user),

I had been on the waiting list for an elective below knee amputation for a considerable period of time.  Eventually I was transferred from orthopaedic care to the vascular team. I saw Mr Siddiqui and my amputation was done.I don't really know where to go next with this story except to say what fabulous care I received from the vascular team. Mr Sayed performed the surgery and everything seems to have gone well.  And what a beautiful neat scar I have! I was very impressed. Thank you!

The staff nurse caring for me in recovery (sorry I can't remember her name) was lovely. She was with me for ages while I waited for a bed in the ward. The staff nurses and CSW's on Ward 8 in Hairmyres were so kind. Nothing was a bother for them. I knew they were busy, but they never seemed rushed. They were all so encouraging and supportive.
The domestics were also very kind. And who says hospital food isn't tasty? I enjoyed all my meals, and my little bits of cake with my tea. And I enjoyed the chat when they had time. And one of the domestics who cleaned my room had a lovely singing voice, he was lovely to listen to.
A big shout out also has to go to the physio, Lyndsey, the OT Jill, and OT assistant Sam. They were amazing at helping me get started on the right path towards rehabilitation, making sure I'd be safe before being discharged home.
Having a below knee amputation was the best healthcare decision I've ever made. I've been pretty much pain free since the turn of the new year. Being without pain for that length of time is unusual for me. I really appreciate everyone who respected my choice for this surgery and I'm so glad it has worked out well. I put this down to the fabulous care I received from the whole vascular team and the positive support and encouragement they gave me.
Thanks everyone!

Dear Viv1crisp,

It was lovely to read your very positive experinece after your surgery here at Hairmyres.

After making such a hard decision it sounds like it has been the best one for you, especially to be living pain free now.

You seem to have thanked all disciplines in your post and it very much has been a team effort in your recovery.

I will ensure that all the positive comments are passed onto the Vascular OT team and I wish you well in your continued recovery.

Thank you

Helen
