"Fantastic service"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / X-rays & Scans

(as a service user),

I attended the one stop consultant breast clinic at Ayrshire Central Hospital, NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

From GP referral, I only had to wait three weeks so could barely have got a private appointment before this. I was extremely nervous as had never attended this type of clinic before. The consultant was lovely, compassionate and took time to put me at ease. She examined me and advised that I would get both a mammogram and ultrasound that morning, and if required a biopsy.

I was then taken through to complete the mammogram - the radiographer, who did this with such care and compassion, and hugely understanding of my anxiety, she talked me through the process so well and tried as much as possible to reduce my anxiety.

I then went through to the second radiographer who completed my ultrasound. She was again absolutely fantastic, and did so again with great care and compassion .

And I cannot express how wonderful,  experienced, calm and kind these two radiographers were . They made what was an extremely stressful, anxiety provoking morning as easy as it could be, and are both a huge asset to not only their profession but to NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

This one stop clinic is absolutely invaluable and run so well by such lovely staff. It really did make what was a hugely stressful morning as straightforward as it could be, knowing that you would leave with your results that day.

The NHS gets a lot of hard criticism, and I felt it was hugely important to feedback my very positive experience from both the staff and the service.

Thank-you for taking the time and effort to write about your positive experience at the one stop Breast clinic.

It is greatly appreciated when patients recognize the skills and compassion of staff, who on a daily basis recognize that the outcome of the examination they are performing could change the patient's life in so many ways.

It will also boost staff morale, even more so just now when there is so much bad publicity around the NHS and not enough focus on the good the NHS still provides to many people. I will definitely make sure it is passed to the Radiographers and all other staff working within the clinic area.
